About

Don't confuse K-os.net with big business music websites. This is a website for music enthusiasts, run by two friends Jan & Steve.

It's some wonder why music can't be less expensive. K-os.net would rather support a scenario where artists received a large percentage of a smaller fee, without a supporting label or other parties taking significant shares. Rather than promoting simply free music, it could make more sense to promote a cut-price indie alternative with more creative products. We envisage at some time in the future, a global network which is wholly de-centralised.

K-os.net will always be a faithful partner to the artists we work with.

The background for this website began in Aberdeen back in the early 90's. Steve was then studying Computing Science and mixing UK breakbeat as DJ Kai. Jan is a promoter at heart and provided a good deal of encouragement and support in getting more DJ experience. There were lots of parties and a few club events, and one of the K-os logos (the celtic knot-work) was used by the Avalon parties, organised by Jan around that time.

Steve graduated with a Computing Science degree in 1997 and moved to Edinburgh to work as a Java software developer. This website was first made while based in Edinburgh, and inspired by others such as E.H.X. (Electronic Audio Artform in The Capital) and Kolin Biomechanoid's UCN around about that time.

K-os.net was up & running in time for the new millennium. It has not changed at all in spirit since then. We have a simple mission: Supporting the Generals, not the majors!

Jan is responsible for pulling in the largest share of the music that has been featured here. He's a particularly friendly person with a knack for finding opportunities in the pursuit of music and fun.

K-os.net is aimed at supplying fresh music to website visitors, and free promotion for independent musicians.
